Family Photography Sessions
My family portrait sessions in Christchurch are relaxed, playful, and genuinely fun. There’s absolutely no pressure for your kids to be on their best behaviour, or for everyone to smile perfectly at the camera. We’ll get some of those beautiful classic family portraits, of course, but I’m also there for the giggles, cuddles, silliness and chaos that actually feels like your family. And if you’ve got toddlers, don’t worry, getting little ones on side is one of my special skills!
My family photo sessions take place outdoors in Christchurch or wider Canterbury, usually in the hour before sunset when the light is soft and glowy. I have a handful of beautiful locations I regularly use, including beaches, long grassy spots and Port Hills locations, giving us plenty of variety for outdoor family photos around Christchurch. I’m always happy to chat about somewhere meaningful to your family too, and travel within around 30 minutes of Christchurch.
Your session includes 20 images, with optional upgrades available, all accessible in a private online gallery of 80+ images. For sessions with more than five people, please enquire about extended family photography.

Fill out my enquiry form and tell me a little about what you’re looking for. I’ll get back to you with my availability and we can find a date that works. A $200 retainer secures your booking, with the remaining balance due two weeks before your session.
STEP 02
Plan your session
Once you’re booked in, I’ll send over my session guide and a questionnaire so we can start planning. We’ll choose a location, chat about what to wear and cover anything else you’d like me to know before the day.
STEP 03
On the day
I’ll check the weather and confirm we’re good to go on the morning of your session. Then all that’s left to do is turn up and have some fun!

FAQ
What is the best time of year for outdoor family portraits?
Spring and autumn are probably the sweet spot for outdoor family photos in Christchurch, especially with younger kids. The weather is milder while sunset is still relatively early. Summer is beautiful but sessions can be as late as 8–9pm, while winter gives us lovely early sunsets but colder temperatures. There’s really no bad time of year — it’s just about what works best for your family.
What happens if the weather is bad?
I keep a close eye on the weather and will check the forecast on the morning of your session. Cloudy weather is absolutely fine, but if rain or strong winds (which it usually is in Christchurch!) are going to make for a miserable time, we’ll find another date.
What happens if someone is sick on the day?
Kids get sick, usually with impeccable timing! If someone is genuinely unwell, get in touch as soon as you can and we’ll work out the best option from there.
What should we wear to our family photos?
Once you’re booked, I’ll send you my family session guide with plenty of advice on what photographs well and how to coordinate everyone without being too matchy. The main thing is that you feel comfortable and still look like yourselves.
Can we bring our dog to our family photos?
Absolutely! Dogs are part of the family too. Just let me know beforehand so we can choose a dog-friendly Christchurch location and plan around having them there.
